Remove location and camera data from a photo
Short answer. Choose a photo and this page makes a copy without the GPS location, the camera model, the date taken and other hidden data. The work happens in your browser, and the photo is not uploaded anywhere. The picture itself is copied as it was, pixel for pixel, with no re-compression.
Your clean copies
What it removes
- Location: GPS coordinates, altitude and direction.
- Camera and lens make and model, serial numbers, and an owner name if the camera stores one.
- The date and time the photo was taken or edited.
- The name of the editing software, captions, keywords, author and copyright text.
- The small preview picture stored inside the file, which can show an older version of the photo.
- XMP and IPTC blocks, text comments, and anything attached after the end of the image, such as the short video of a motion photo.
One thing is kept on purpose: the rotation flag, so a portrait photo does not turn sideways. The colour profile stays too. The rotation flag identifies no one. The colour profile describes colours, not you, though a rare custom profile can carry a name.
What it does not touch
- The picture itself. Faces, number plates, street signs or a view from your window stay visible. If the shot shows where you are, this tool cannot hide it.
- Visible watermarks and anything drawn on the image.
- The file name. Rename the copy before you share it if the name contains a person or a place.
- Traces in the pixels themselves, for example the noise pattern of a camera sensor.
- Other formats. HEIC (photos saved by many iPhones), GIF, AVIF, RAW and video are not supported. For HEIC, save or export the photo as JPEG first.
Is the photo really not uploaded?
This page contains the code that cleans the file and nothing that sends your photo anywhere. Your browser reads the file and makes the copy on your own device. You can check it yourself: open the page, turn on airplane mode or switch off Wi-Fi, then choose a photo. It still works. We also test it: while a photo is processed, the page makes no network requests.
Like the rest of this site, the page counts page views and taps on the Google Play button. It never sees your photos. Details are in the privacy policy.
Keep the photos you do not share private
Removing hidden data protects a photo you are about to send. ZeroBox is for the photos you never send: an Android vault with its own PIN, where photos and videos are encrypted on your phone.
